David J. Rank is the founder and director of the annual nonprofit Novel-In-Progress Bookcamp & Retreat residential writing programs, which started in 2014. A member of the Horror Writers Association and both the Wisconsin Writers Association and Chicago Writers Association, he was WWA president from 2013 to 2016 and on the WWA Board from 2009 to 2016.
A published author, editor, and recovering community journalist, his short stories have been published in regional literary publications, multiple online ezines, and three print anthologies The Grays, published by JWK Fiction, Wisconsin Review II, published by the WWA Press, and Shallow Waters 4, published by Crystal Lake Publishing. Currently, Rank is circulating his SF/Noir Mystery Alien Ways seeking representation and a publisher. This unpublished novel was selected as a semifinalist in the 2019 Screencraft Cinematic Book Competition, finishing in the top 10 percent, both published and unpublished
With more than 40 years in the journalism racket, Rank has written for and edited newspapers, magazines, books, and worked in corporate communications for manufacturing firms, a regional hospital, and a technical college.
Married and a resident of Wisconsin, now retired, he now focuses on administering the NIP and his writing, as well as enjoying the adventures of his three adult children and young grandchildren. Currently, he is working on a horror novel, a gothic romance novel, and outlining the plots for two Alien Ways sequels.
